Sponsership

Our Mission
We, at the Guyana Zoo, have a shared vision of the gradual and purposeful improvement of our zoo into the future.

We aim to do this in two separate ways: continuously improve the quality of care provided to the animals in the zoo's collection and continue to enhance the services offered to the visiting public.
Through financial sponsorship, friends to the Guyana Zoo are important in the achievement of these goals
.

Current Sponsorship Opportunity
A major effort is underway presently at the Guyana Zoo to build a new aquarium to house a variety of local fish for visitors to observe and learn about. We have been struggling along with our old aquarium building for a good while now and construction of a new facility is long overdue. If you or your organisation wishes to assist us in raising funds to build a new aquarium, please contact:

Donna Sheppard - djsheppa@excite.com

Financial contributions may be forwarded to the Guyana Aquarium Account, managed by the National Parks Commission. Contact the General Manager, Ms. Inge Nathoo, at natpark@networksgy.com for particulars.

Avid readers of the Guyana Zoo web page will know that the acquisition of a new school bus, for the zoo's environmental education programme, has been a major funding goal for over two years now. We are pleased to announce that we have reached our goal! - the Guyana Zoo has acquired a brand new Toyota 30-Seater Coaster School Bus. Considerable funding support has made it possible for the Guyana Zoo to attain this much-needed vehicle.

The National Parks Commission joins in thanking the following donors: the Calgary Zoo in Canada, the San Diego Zoo and Jacksonville Zoo in the United States, the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF), and two independent funders, Viviette de Lima and Karen McDuffie. Donor recognition is portrayed through the presentation of agency logos on the bus. Graphic artwork was made possible through the services of Mark Thomas of Prosigns.

This new bus will be used to transport school children to the Guyana Zoo's nature school for wildlife education programming. Without the use of this bus, a field trip to the zoo would not be affordable for many of the students coming from out-of-town schools. Our previous school bus began to deteriorate last year after considerable service - records kept over a 6-year period from 1996 to 2001 indicate that the bus transported 2, 555 teachers and 49, 817 students - a heavy work schedule!!! This spanking new air-conditioned bus will make travel safe, comfortable and reliable for all passengers.

The Guyana Zoo's wildlife education programme offers young Guyanese an educational opportunity unparalleled in this country. Our new bus will make it possible for this vital education programme to continue unhindered into the foreseeable future. We, the board members and staff of the National Parks Commission, inclusive of the Guyana Zoo staff, underscore our thanks to all our donors.
